Today’s Class/Resources for YOU!

Thank you, once again, for your time and energy in our Parenting Together course! I hope you left today feeling connected to others and compassionate towards yourself.

As Dreikurs once said,

“Whenever you feel dismayed or you find yourself thinking, ‘My gosh, I did it all wrong,’ don’t reproach yourself. You need to constantly reinforce your own courage, and to do so, you need the ‘courage to be imperfect’. The application of these principles will take time. You can’t do it all at once. Each small improvement is a step forward. Each step forward is the source of further encouragement.”

I hope you found the tools we discussed today useful. As promised, I have included links to the videos (and a great article on routines) below. You can find many of these same links, as well as the links to the google slides, at the Parenting Together website – https://parentingtogether.edublogs.org/ (password for google slides- cacparent).

I want to give a huge thank you to Hala for her willingness to be our volunteer in our first Parents Helping Parents activity. Thank you, Hala, for your openness. Your story helped all of us as it allowed us to share our wisdom with each other. I am sorry it was cut short due to the fire drill. Please let us know next week how things progress.

Have a wonderful rest of the week everyone!

Hugs,

Carey

PS…..don’t forget you are all welcome to join us for our weekly Parents Helping Parents meeting which takes place every Wednesday, after morning drop off,  in the PTO lounge.

Looking forward to our next class!

All the best,

Carey

September 11, 2022: Session #4 – Coming Up!

Dear Parents,

I’ve really enjoyed getting to know all of you and I appreciate everyone’s dedication to the course, despite the often stressful transition the new school year brings.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone this Tuesday at 8:30 for our 4th Session together where we will learn more tools that can be super helpful in avoiding power struggles.  If you were absent last session, please don’t worry and do join us!

Last week I shared a video on our take away tool – Big Rocks. You can find the big rocks video in Session #3 of the course blog. Please visit https://parentingtogether.edublogs.org/ – go to the Course tab located on top menu bar and then to- Session #3. You can also find it under Resources – Videos. Let me know if you have any trouble locating or viewing it.

See you on Tuesday!

Carey

Positive Discipline and Special Time

Dear Parents,

I hope you are all enjoying your weekend! It was such a pleasure to learn more about you during our activities last week. I really appreciate everyone’s willingness to share their experiences and look forward to more connection in the coming weeks.

I hope you are enjoying the book, Positive Discipline. If you don’t yet have the book, there are still copies available at the CAC library. Homework Session #2  for this week is to read Chapter 3. The study guide, found in your course binder, has questions that go along with each chapter and can be quite helpful for remembering the concepts taught.

Our take away tool for the week is Special Time. I encourage you to set up special time for each child in your family. To learn more about Special Time, read the following articles from Positive Discipline.

As promised, I have uploaded the take away tools we discussed on the Parent Blog https://parentingtogether.edublogs.org under Session 2

You will find links to the presentation slides, the videos I shared today, as well as more tips and stories on ways to implement  SPECIAL TIME. I hope you find them helpful!

Thank you so much for your time!

Have a lovely week,

Carey
